Deliverance is the ministry Jesus introduced as He healed the sick and set free those tormented by demons (also referred to as unclean or demonic spirits). Deliverance is the process of expelling demons. Scripture specificallly refers to deliverance as "Casting Out Demons."
However, it is more than that; Deliverance is one aspect of the total salvation that Jesus purchased on the cross. Salvation is more than a ticket to heaven. Salvation includes God's TOTAL provision for human need, including our pain and suffering.
The Greek word saved is a form of the Greek word SOZO. This Greek word is not only translated as saved (salvation) but it is also translated with words like healed, made whole, delivered or set free. When Jesus cast out a demon He occasionally said; "Your faith has set you free (sozo)" or "Your faith has healed (sozo) you."
Therefore, salvation is not just escaping hell but it includes healing and deliverance from evil spirits.
Deliverance is what Jesus did and what He told us to do in Mark 16:16; that we are told to "cast out demons." In fact, it is the first sign that Jesus told us would follow His believers: "In my name they will cast out demons..." (Mark 16:17). Therefore, deliverance is a command.
The term deliverance is used to encompass both the process and the result of one's liberation from demonic bondage. Deliverance is achieved, as we said, by driving out evil spirits using your authority in the name of Jesus. Because Jesus said we would cast out demons in "His Name."
